KitSplitters love to rent gear–a lot of gear. And for the fourth year in a row, we’re breaking down what kind of gear the KitSplit community was looking for! These ten pieces of gear are what you, the KitSplit community, have been most excited about in 2019—based on rentals and searches.
PS – Keep scrolling after you check out our main list to see our honorable mentions!According to Zoom, “The Zoom H4n [is] the gold standard in portable recording.” and while they aren’t paying us to say this–we have to agree–and so does the KitSplit Community!
1. Sony A7S II
The Sony A7S II took the A7S to the next level with 4K internal mirrorless shooting. We thought we were getting an A7S III in 2019–but that never happened. However that didn’t stop KitSplitters from keeping the Sony A7S II in the number one spot on our list for the 2nd year in a row!
2. Sennheiser EW 112P G3C
Theres a reason this on-set staple makes it’s way onto our list every year–KitSplitters love the G3 because it’s the most reliable wireless lavalier in its price range. Plus it’s wide range of accessories helps it to adapt to pretty much anything you can throw at it.
3. DJI Ronin-S
Back in 2018 when the DJI Ronin-S came out, we knew it would be game changing for the indy filmmaking community. We even asked Charles Haine test it out for us–and by the way, he loved it. So it’s no surprise that KitSplitters all over the country have been renting the hell out of this tiny powerhouse.
4. Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera
Even though the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera requires…very big pockets…KitSplitters rented it in droves. Probably because its relatively small size, impressive specs and even more impressive price point makes it one of the most versatile cinema cameras on the market right now.
5. Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM
For the fourth year in a row this lens found its way onto our most popular of the year, but we aren’t shocked. One of Canon’s most popular lenses, the 24-70 II USM carries a consistent f2.8 aperture throughout it’s zoom range, minimizes chromatic aberration, and offers silent super fast autofocus.
6. Canon EOS C300 Mark II
This year it finds itself in the very same #6 spot it was in last year–KitSplitters keep coming back to it for good reason. Canon’s C300 Mark II is modular, customizable, and portable, making it the ideal tool for gorgeous video, TV and small films.
7. Sony XDCAM PXW-FS7
In 2018 the mighty FS7 didn’t make our top ten list but a lot of KitSplitter’s rented the FS7 in 2019. Probably for things like the ability record 4K video internally with a super 35mm Exmor CMOS sensor, and 14 stops dynamic range.
8. Astra 1×1 Bi-Color LED
Litepanels continues their domination of the LED world with this incredible advance in 1×1 tech–a staple in the lighting world, this light is bi-color, and with the twist of a knob can swing from tungsten to daylight without even changing a bulb! KitSplitters think the Astra 1×1 makes a versatile addition to any shoot.
9. Tilta Nucleus-M
KitSplitters rented a bunch of wireless controllers in 2019, but the Tilta Nucleus-M was by far the most popular. Filmmakers want to be sure they get the shot every time, and the Nucleus is the most reliable option out there.
10. Zoom H4n Handy Recorder
According to Zoom, “The Zoom H4n [is] the gold standard in portable recording.” and while they aren’t paying us to say this–we have to agree–and so does the KitSplit Community!
