Dear KitSplit Community,
The last few days have been a whirlwind, and I’m sure many of you are feeling the same thing we’re feeling here at KitSplit: Overwhelmed. Anxious. Afraid. Nervous for our future and our livelihoods.
One thing that has become clear is that we must act swiftly and do our part to help mitigate the spread of the virus. This means we must come together as a community and force ourselves to stay apart. Social distancing is the term being used to describe this act of self-quarantine. In order to prevent the rapid spread of the virus, we must minimize our contact with others. While many members of this community are young and healthy and will be minimally affected, we must do our part to prevent spreading the virus to more vulnerable populations.
What this means for us here at KitSplit (and for many others) is that we are working from home. We are fortunate to be in a position to do this. However, we are also aware that this isn’t a possibility for many people, and the result of this has been: Cancelled shoots, cancelled events, cancelled festivals and cancelled conferences.
This is a tough burden to bear, as cancelled events means no income for many of you. We feel you. We understand how stressful this situation is. Know that the community and we at KitSplit have your back. Please reach out if we can help in any way. Some of you may continue working out in the world and may have no choice. We stand by you too. To that end, here are some tips we’ve cobbled together. You have probably heard this a million times now, but it is important to repeat:
- Wash your hands! 20 seconds minimum.
- Stop touching your face already!
- Clean your hard surfaces. For those of you with gear, be careful around the electronics. Make sure that everything is unplugged, the batteries are removed and there is no power. If you have gloves, use them. The CDC says, “diluted household bleach solutions, alcohol solutions with at least 70% alcohol, and most common EPA-registered household disinfectants should be effective.”
- Here are more good tips for cleaning phones/tablets/electronics from The Wirecutter.
- After cleaning your gear, wash your hands, even if you used gloves!
We’re not sure what the future will bring. We’ll be watching this unfold alongside you. What we do know is that this community has always, as a group, deeply and intuitively understood the strength and power of community–it’s what allows us to do the work we do and to tell the stories we tell.
Stay strong out there. Keep being weird and keep making things.
