NYC in December means trying to embrace the spirit of the season, while simultaneously trying to not freak out over the midtown-tree-traffic. After you’ve hit up the Union Square Holiday Market, check out some of the events below! From a cat & dog film festival to a Q&A With Guillermo Del Toro–we rounded up a list of some great things to do in town this December!

Events:

Q&A With Guillermo Del Toro, Octavia Spencer, Doug Jones and Michael Stuhlbarg – The Shape of Water
Saturday, 12/2, 4:15 PM, $15

From acclaimed director Guillermo del Toro comes THE SHAPE OF WATER, an other-worldly fairytale set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1963 topping the shortlist for Academy Awards Best Picture contenders. Stay for a Q&A with Guillermo del Toro, Michael Stuhlbarg, Octavia Spencer and Doug Jones after the screening.

The First Annual NY Cat Film Festival
Saturday, 12/9, 3:00 PM

Our office is currently decorated with photos of cats holding cameras (you’re welcome), which is why The First Annual NY Cat Film Festival is right up our alley! It’s a medley of short films – documentary and narrative – that honor the mysterious felines, who have fascinated mankind for centuries and continue to enchant us.

The Third Annual New York Dog Film Festival
Sunday, 12/10, 2:45 PM

We also have an office dog, Evie (pictured here looking majestic) which is why we’re pumped for the 3rd Annual NYC Dog Film Festival! After the annual premiere in New York City, Tracie Hotchner takes the NY Dog Film Festival around the country each year, showing two different film programs.

Jonas Mekas: 95 and Counting
December 19 – December 22

To celebrate Jonas Mekas’s upcoming 95th birthday (which officially arrives on Christmas Eve), Anthology Film Archives will be supplementing their annual Essential Cinema screenings of Walden and Reminiscences of a Journey to Lithuania (Dec 18 & 19) with a selection of rarely-screened films and videos from Jonas’s vast body of work.
